Resin Composite is the most popular type of restoration. It uses the most advanced type of dental products to actually bind the filling material to the tooth. This means that not only is the restoration replacing the tooth structure that was compromised by the decay, but it is also bonding and holding the tooth together to become even stronger. Furthermore, this restoration comes in a variety of different tooth-colors so that we can match the restoration to your unique shade. After the decay is completely removed, there are 4 steps to this restoration. The first step is called, “etch,” and this helps open the pores to the teeth and make sure the prepped area is significantly clean of any impurities so that the filling has the best chance of binding successfully. The next steps use a solution to help prime and create the bond for the filling. We like to imagine a zipper that pulls the filling material in close and interlocks it to the tooth. The last step is to pick a shade and fill the tooth back to its original shape. Special hand pieces are used to shape the grooves and you are left with a piece of art that no one would know was ever there.
